Naples may have a reputation as being one of the wealthiest cities in the world, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend like a high roller to create special memories with your family. With a city as richly diverse as Naples, there are plenty of low-cost and free options for family fun.
Below, we’ve highlighted ten activities that we think will add a special variation to your fall itinerary. So get out your pens and mark your calendars! This fall season is offering plenty to do at a perfectly absent price.
1. Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens
For years the Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens has entertained and educated Collier County families. But not everyone knows about the special benefit extended only to the residents who support the zoo’s efforts year round.
On the first Saturday of every month, the Naples Zoo offers free admission to Collier County residents. Stop in before 4 p.m. to benefit from this amazing savings and give your family free access to the park’s ten daily shows and ten feature exhibits. Get up close and personal with lions, tigers, monkeys, bears, and more to give your family the kind of hands-on learning experience they won’t be able to find anywhere else.
2. Mom & Tots Story Time
If you’re looking for a reason to get out of the house with your little one, the Mom & Tots Story Time at Barnes & Noble in the Waterside Shops is your perfect excuse. Every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m., join Miss Jessica and Miss Felicia as they lead the way to fun and laughter with reading, singing, dancing, and coloring.
If your children are a little older, then you may want to check into some of the other groups at the bookstore, such as the Twilight Fan Book Club.
3. Art in the Park
Naples’ oldest outdoor art festival is preparing to celebrate its 54th season. Get out into the fresh fall air on the first Saturday of every month, beginning in November, and join art enthusiasts at Park Street beside The von Liebig Art Center to view a showcase of artwork from chosen members of the Naples Art Association. Be sure to check out the hands-on interactive displays in the Food Court area. In addition to local artists demonstrating to your children how their art is made, crafts will be made available for your little artists to experiment with as well.
4. Sunday Jazz Concert
If you’re looking to instill a little music culture in your family, bring a blanket or pack a few chairs and head over to the Norris Community Center. On October 31 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bandshell, you and your wallet can relax to the creative rhythms during this free jazz concert. By packing a late lunch, early dinner, or your favorite family snacks, you can have a low cost meal with amazing entertainment your family won’t soon forget.
5. Coconut Point Fall Art Festival
On November 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Coconut Point Mall will play host to its second annual Fall Art Festival. You and your family can stroll amid fine art and life sized sculptures, while live music fills the streets.
6. Naples Festival of Lights and Tree Lighting
Don’t miss the one-of-a-kind event at 5 p.m. on November 22, as Naples kicks off its holiday season in grand style. Adults and children alike will enjoy the exciting countdown as to the dazzling lighting of the giant tree nestled on Third Street.
Afterward, stick around and wander through the “snowy” streets as choirs, dancers and musicians endeavor to keep you entertained well into the night. And your children won’t want to miss the cameo appearance by from Santa Claus.
7. Grand Menorah Lighting and Chanukah Festival
You don’t have to be of Jewish faith to appreciate this beautiful and unique festival. Hosted at Coconut Point Mall on December 2, the celebration will be kicked off by lighting South Lee County’s largest oil menorah at 5:30 p.m.. The whole family can learn a little about the history of this ceremony and enjoy the lively entertainment. Traditional music will be played and both Jewish and Israeli foods will be available for sampling. For the younger ones in your family, there are plenty of arts and crafts to be enjoyed. Last year children filled plastic dreidels with colored salt and created edible menorahs from chocolate, marshmallows, and candy corn.
8. Naples Christmas Parade
Line the streets on December 7 for a first-hand look at some creative floats passing you by in this yearly parade. Beginning at Third Street, winding around Fifth Avenue and ending at Cambier Park, this popular, lighted celebration is a must-see event on every holiday calendar.
While local marching bands move to the beat of popular music, you can sing along and wave to your favorite floats as the entourage ushers in Santa and Mrs. Claus.
9. Tuba Christmas
On December 8, join the masses in Sugden Plaza at 701 Fifth Avenue South at 6 p.m. as an all-tuba band plays a variety of traditional holiday carols and competes for “Best Dressed Tuba”. The winning float from the Naples Christmas Parade will be announced.
10. Village Boat Parade
The holidays in Naples wouldn’t be complete without the annual Village Boat Parade at The Village on Venetian Bay. Join boaters beginning at 6 p.m. on December 10 for what is sure to be a creative display of holiday cheer.
Those keeping their feet on dry land will feel just as much a part of the event as well, as the Village hosts live music and entertainment, magic shows, free face painting for children, and more as the evening continues.
